Artist Ranch Project 2009
Lori Sobkowich
Lori Sobkowich, a professional and lifelong artist, can’t remember a time when she didn’t draw...
Upon graduating from the Fine Arts program at the University of Calgary, Lori was hired as a designer for the Rubiyat Studio and learned the traditional craft of leaded stained glass. This opened up new opportunities for applying her painting and drawing skills, as well as creating a deep appreciation for glass in all its forms and possibilities. Acting on this, Lori studied further with international artists at Red Deer College, the Alberta College of Art and Design and as far as Washington State (on scholarship, twice) at Pilchuk Glass School. In addition Lori continues to paint, draw, design and fabricate for private, public and corporate commissions: most notably, for sculptural installations at Prince’s Island Park, Enmax Place, the Glenbow Museum and Auburn Bay Community.
“I truly enjoy making beautiful and interesting things. I love manipulating all manner of material and imagining what I might do with it. Whether a project is, informational, philosophical or simply sensual, it is my desire to engage the viewer intimately in the very making of it: to be intrigued by technique and to delight in amazing results.”
