Phillip Bandura is a third generation Calgarian. He graduated from the Alberta College of Art + Design glass program in 2005 with distinction. After graduation he co-founded Bee Kingdom art collective with Tim Belliveau and Ryan Fairweather.
Phillip has shown in galleries all over the world, from Canada to South Korea, and from Seattle to Berlin. In 2010 Bee Kingdom were awarded a prestigious emerging artist award by the Lt. Governor of Alberta, and were included in Calgary's Avenue magazine, Top 40 under 40.
Common themes present in Phillip’s art are the ideas of play, politics and light-hearted satire.
“As a self proclaimed city boy, I never understood the simple joy of a day spent riding a horse through the rolling foothills of Alberta.”
“Being a third generation calgarian and having no personal experience with western canadian ranching history, I jumped on the opportunity to learn more about what made Calgary what it is today.”
“When it came time to make work about my encounter with the ranch, all I could think about was the preservation and proliferation of the ideal western canadian experience.”
