Kay Homan
Obviously influenced by her life on a cattle ranch, as a toddler, Kay’s crayon drawings of cows and horses were startlingly lifelike. Homan has made her career as an artist for over 30 years. These days, watercolours are her main medium. Traditionally, watercolours are used in a limited detailed, light and breezy washes style. Kay’s use of them is the exact opposite -- very detailed, hearty in colour and a lot of time-consuming layering of the transparent paint is a vital key to the look that she achieves.
Homan exhibited for five years at the prestigious Autry Museum of Western Heritage in Los Angeles.
In 1982, Kay became the first woman member of the A.I.C.A. (American Indian and Cowboy Artists Assn.).
Her work has been featured in magazine articles including Art of the West, Southwest Art, Western Horseman, International Cowboy, Old West Traveler, and Indian Country.
