Doug Levitt
Doug Levitt was commissioned to paint the image used for the 2008 Calgary Stampede poster which promotes the Stampede world-wide. The painting auctioned for a record-setting $63,000 in 2007. He has also won Best of Show, Artist Choice and Collector's choice awards.
Doug was born and raised in Calgary. He was accepted at the Alberta College of Art & Design after high school, but a scholarship for acting first drew him to a theatrical career.
In 1998 he was commissioned to do a portrait of Guy LaFleur, and the series of graphite drawings that ensued are in venues throughout North America.
He began painting in 2001 and immediately focused on Western Art. When not painting Native themes he turns his attention to cowboy/ranching themes and horses as well as portraits.
He considers his "big break" came when he was juried into the Calgary Stampede Western Art Salon in 2003, and he has been exhibiting at the Stampede ever since.
