Hubert Nanzer
Born in central Switzerland in 1948 Hubert has lead an eclectic and dynamic life. After graduating from the academy of art in Lucerne, he headed off on a three year travel excursion around the world. During this time in the early seventies, he worked lived and traveled through almost 70 countries, experiencing their culture, art and peoples.
From his experiences hiking remote treks in South East Asia, teaching English in Japan, to scaling mountain peaks in South America, Hubert now draws.
He settled in Calgary in 1978 to be near the mountains and to pursue a career in art and design. In 1998 after a successful twenty years as a graphic designer and illustrator, Hubert felt it was time to follow his true lifelong passion - painting...
Hubert has developed an intense connections to the Canadian Rockies and an empathy for the power and beauty that can be found there. Each canvas reveals this connections through the skillful use of composition, colour and technique. This mature artist conveys their mood - their mystique.
The artist resides now in Canada, Costa Rica and Antigua alternatively, where he works and prepares for various shows. In Canada he has exhibited in several prominent Western Canadian Galleries, and most recently at the Canada House in Banff, the Quest Avens Gallery in Canmore and the Stephen Lowe Art Gallery in Calgary.
