Lot Info
Doug Welykholowa Raised in Saskatchewan, Doug served 30 years in the Canadian Army as an artillery officer, retiring in 2002 to pursue a career as an artist. Doug is a self-taught artist whose prairie upbringing has been the major influence in his watercolours of landscapes, old buildings and derelict machinery. In his paintings he uses composition, strong lighting and bright colour to provide a unique view of these prairie artifacts. Doug aims to give the viewer a feeling for the texture and broad range of colours these objects contain, as nature takes its toll on the metal and wood. Doug's watercolours have won numerous awards over the years, including the Calgary Stampede Western Art Show Gallery Collectors' Choice Award in 2005. Doug has participated in the Calgary Stampede Western Art Auction since 2007. His paintings and prints hang in public and private collections across Canada, the USA, Europe, and Australia. Doug also experiments with digital art based on his own photographs.
