People of the Plains Artist
Terrance (Ted) Oster
Terrence Oster originally grew up among the islands and lakes of north-western Ontario and now calls Winnipeg home. During his youth he was influence by his observations of the natural world including wildlife and the interaction of life. Terrence focuses mainly on birds and animals, many of which are represented in his artwork as eyeless. He believes the eyes represent the animal’s spirit and cannot be duplicated; so the large voids in the eyes are clear. The small dots surrounding most of his pieces reflect his belief that all creatures are from the earth and carry the earth with them. His style and use of colour evolved from observing nature. As a self-taught artist, Ted’s style of Woodland art is constantly refining and evolving.
