Western Art Show & Western Art Auction will feature
outstanding work from world-class artists. |
Calgary – The Calgary Stampede is pleased to present the 31st Annual Western Art Show & Auction during the Greatest Outdoor Show on Earth, July 6 – 15, 2012
This year's world class art show and auction features original juried art depicting the west in all of its splendor. It will take place in the Western Oasis, a 100,000 sq. ft. art and leisure area in the BMO Centre on Stampede Park which boasts original art for sale in a uniquely western setting.
Western Oasis will feature:
• Artists' Studios – Artists' Studios showcases 62 participating artists who work in a variety of mediums.
• Western Art Gallery – The Gallery exhibits and sells the juried work of emerging local artists. This year they will have the work of 30 artists for sale. New this year will be Artist InSite which will have artists present daily from 2:00 – 5:00pm and 5:00 – 8:00pm to discuss their art and art in general with the public.
• Western Photo Gallery and Competition – This area features western fine art photography, highlighting the stunning work of over 30 photographers. The Gallery will have limited edition prints for sale and the Competition will be showing all entries in a continuous loop daily.
Stop by and see the winning entries in the Canadian Geographic Competition on display in the Western Photo Gallery area.
• Artist Ranch Project – A contemporary artist-in-residence program highlighted by the unique work of five established artists. This year's artist-in-residence ranch is the Bar U Ranch south of Calgary.
• The Western Art Auction will take place on July 12, 2012 and will offer over 90 original pieces including significant work from artists C.R. Cheek, Harley Brown, and Jack King among others. The 2012 Western Art Show & Auction truly makes for a unique experience for people who love western art from the past and the present. The 2012 Outstanding Artist Achievement Award will be presented to Michelle Grant. The artist of the 2012 Western Art Show Collectors pin is Doug Levitt.
