Calgary – The Calgary Stampede is pleased to present the 29th Annual Western Art Show & Auction during the Greatest Outdoor Show on Earth, July 9-18, 2010.
This year’s world class art show and auction features original juried art depicting the west in all of its splendor. It will take place in the Western Oasis, a new 100,000 sq. ft. art and leisure area in the BMO Centre on Stampede Park which boasts original art for sale in a uniquely western setting.
Western Oasis will feature:
- Artists’ Studios – Artists’ Studios showcases 62 participating artists who work in a variety of mediums.
- Gallery – Gallery exhibits and sells the juried work of emerging local artists and will be the 4th year featuring “People of the Plains – Artistic Expressions”, which highlights the works of noted Aboriginal artists.
- Western Photo Gallery and Competition – This area features western fine art photography, highlighting the stunning work of over 30 photographers.
- Artist Ranch Project – A contemporary artist-in-residence program highlighted by the unique work of three established artists.
The Auction will take place on July 15, 2010 and will offer 86 original pieces including significant work from artists including C.M. Russell, Harley Brown, Jack King, Nicholas and Rick de Grandmaison, Richard Loffler, Don Oelze and John Schnurrenberger, among others. The 2010 Western Art Show & Auction truly makes for a unique experience for people who love western art from the past and the present.
