Window On The West Performers
Singer Songwriter Berna-Dean Holland
Singer Songwriter Berna-Dean Holland is a returning artist to the Windows On
The West Stage and this year is very excited to be joined by one of Calgary's
finest up and coming Bluegrass Bands, Prairie's Edge.
Berna-Dean has been having a lot of fun since the release of her debuted
album "Fledgling", in April 2010. The album was well received, gaining
radio play in Alberta on CKUA and across Canada on CBC and one of her
songs "Black Gold" won both local and National awards and landed a spot on
the David Suzuki Playlist for the Planet. In addition to playing several music
clubs and a few festivals in the Calgary region, other Alberta based highlights
in 2011 included performing in the TransCanada Alberta Music Series at
Calgary's Epcor Centre in March and the Qualico Patio Series at Festival Place last August in Sherwood Park . Another high point in Berna-Dean's musical journey came in January of this year when she performed with her own band, in the newly launched " Room Full of Sound" concert series in Okotoks Alberta.
Now this won't be the first time Berna-Dean has performed with Prairie's
Edge , for last summer she sang back up in the band for the Shady Grove
Bluegrass Festival and Foothills Bluegrass Music Society Picnic and Concert.
She had a blast, so it seemed rather fitting to bring this toe tapping band
along for the ride for this year's performance on the Windows on the West
Stage, and how excited they all are to be a part of the celebrations for this
Calgary Stampede Centennial Year! For more information about Berna-Dean,

Prairie's Edge is a Calgary based bluegrass band that plays a mix of old and
new bluegrass with a side of classic country. The band was formed in August
2010 when they won the Shady Grove Bluegrass Idol competition. Their wide
range of experience brings a fresh new feel with strong roots in traditional
bluegrass. Since then Prairie's Edge has performed on numerous stages in the Calgary region , including a return to the Shady Grove Bluegrass Festival stage as a featured act this past summer.
Heading up the band with lead vocals and guitar is Rick Gerrior, a former East
Coaster who discovered bluegrass just a couple years ago and has been
hooked ever since. Keeping the band on track, is bass player Brian Holland who traded in his electric bass for an upright 3 years ago and was converted from the dark world of rock bass to bluegrass. Roger Vautour another former East Coaster has been playing banjo in the bluegrass world for over three decades and has played with Ray Legere, Eddie Portier and various bands such as Mountain Meadow, Bluegrass Jam, and Bluegrass connection.
Playing mandolin and singing that high lonesome tenor harmony, originally
from Ontario Bill Jackson brings lots of experience playing various
instruments in several bluegrass bands. Burnin up the strings on the fiddle is Bruce Rohn from BC. Bruce brings a wealth of knowledge and skill to the band with a couple decades of experience in the country and bluegrass world.
