Bob Shortt
Bob Shortt was born in Dublin Ireland and began his musical career early.
He performed his first concert at the age of eleven, playing the Mandolin and then the Tenor Banjo.
In 1973 Bob landed in Canada to start a North American tour with Olive Bayle and The Irish Tradition and record "My Green Valley"
When the the tour was finished Bob joined the "Cobblers Awl" and toured the
USA and Canada. Albums 2&3 were recorded during this time.
1978 Bob joined "Miller's Jug" and Album No 4 was recorded with some of his own material, By 1983 the band expanded their talents to include live theatre. Bob played the lead role in "O' Hara's Return", which won the prestigious CAN PRO awards for best Canadian Drama.
1986 Bob moved to Edmonton Alberta to begin a solo career, that year he played for the city's Klondike Days as a Banjo player, also that year he played for The Duke and Duchess of York. Albums 5 & 6 were recorded with the Foggy Dew Band.
1999 Bob's first solo album was released "A Long Way From Home" with 14 original songs. Bob played all the instruments making this a truly solo album.
2000 Bob moved to Red Deer Alberta and recorded "Behind The Banjo" 2004"Country Meets Folk" again all original songs and music.
2005 Bob played for Queen Elizabeth II in Edmonton for the city's Centennial Celebration.
2006 recorded "Bob Shortt At The Alberta Country Opry".
2009 Sept moved to Stettlar Alberta and has played on the Alberta Prairie steam Railway Excursion Train and other venues throughout Alberta.
Bob's Irish charm and professional attitude to his music has kept booked
regularly through out Alberta. His rich blend of Irish, Scottish, Maritime, Old Country and Original music playing tunes on the Guitar, Banjo and Mandolin.
