Ed Peekeekoot
Growing up in a musical and supportive family helped Ed Peekeekoot, of the Ahtahkakoop Cree First Nation, become a highly skilled finger-style guitarist. A singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist, Ed also plays fiddle, banjo, and traditional Native flute and drums. His in the key of cree was nominated for Best Country CD at the Aboriginal People’s Choice Music Awards 2008 and he performed on the awards show broadcast live on APTN. He has played at Indian Summer Festival, the largest aboriginal music festival in the American Midwest, in Milwaukee; as well as at many Exhibitions, Festivals and Fairs, as well as Concert Halls. He is a versatile, skilled and experienced performer as well as a gifted storyteller playing original instrumentals and songs as well as country/folk gems that he has gathered and polished. He takes audiences on a wildly varied musical journey from blazing guitar to foot stomping fiddle to haunting flute, in styles ranging from country and folk with touches of classical and jazz.
Ed is also a talented artist, whose work is being displayed for the second year in a row at the Calgary Stampede’s juried art exhibit at the Western Gallery—People of the Plains.
