Window On The West Performers
Homebound Runaways
The Homebound Runaways are a new band to the Calgary folk scene, but Brendan, Sean, Ben, Spencer and Jarred are by no means strangers to the genre. Individually, as freelance musicians, their performance credits reach impressive heights, despite all being under the age of 25.
The members of the Homebound Runaways have shared the stage seperately with diverse artists such as Ian Tyson, Anne Murray, Natalie MacMaster, The Trans- Siberian Orchestra, Matt Masters, Greg Cockerill, Corb Lund, Sam Masterton, The Road Hammers, Jack Marks, Brett Kissel, Jason Blaine, Dave McCann and Seancara. They’ve played across four continents for dignitaries around the world. They have honed their skills at various post-secondary jazz institutions in Calgary, Edmonton and Toronto and are all experienced teachers as well, teaching students privately as well as teaching and administrating regularly at music camps across Canada.
In 2007, Brendan received the ‘Betty Mitchell Award’ for Sound Design and Composition, and has since been nominated four more times for his work in Calgary.
As fiddle players, Ben, Sean and Jarred have been finalists at the prestigious Grand North American Fiddle Championships a total of 8 times, each time they attended with Sean winning the first place prize in 2005. Ben has won numerous awards as a classical violist and violinist as well, at the local and provincial levels. Sean has an international reputation playing music for Irish Dance competitions throughout North America, including at world qualifying competitions and for members of the hit shows Riverdance and Lord of the Dance. Jarred has contributed his expertise to the Calgary Fiddlers organization as a coach and instructor as well as writing and arranging music for the organization.
Each of the members of the Homebound Runaways are accomplished recording artists, playing on countless recordings for other musicians, as well as having personally released a total of 9 albums with various groups.
The Homebound Runaways has succesfully been a creative outlet for all five members, who write music for the band. The vast experience of the players involved, along with a high level of virtuosity and musicianship makes for a dynamic and exciting live show.
